Mary Reid Henderson (10 July 1882 - 3 February 1964) was a Scottish painter, etcher, embroiderer, enameller and metal worker.[1][2]
Life
[edit]Her father was John Henderson (born c. 1852), a school board clerk from Calderbank. He also taught French and shorthand.
Her mother was Margaret Steven Ferguson (born 23 January 1851), daughter of William Muir Ferguson and Mary Reid. John and Margaret married on 21 June 1881 at 7 Hopetoun Place, Glasgow.
Mary Reid Henderson was born on 10 July 1882 at 80 West Graham Street, Glasgow.
She was married in 1912 in Anderston, to a teacher James McNeill of Theffort, Oswald Street in Ayr. They divorced in 1929 on the grounds of desertion. Mary Reid Henderson's address was given as 34 Dunearn Street, Glasgow.[3]
Art
[edit]She was a student at the Glasgow School of Art between 1901 and 1908.[4]
She was a member of the Glasgow Society of Lady Artists.[5]
She became a head teacher of Art at Helensburgh School.[6]
Death
[edit]She died at 121 Hill Street, Glasgow on 3 February 1964. Her usual residence was 8 Auchenmaid Drive, Largs. She died of bladder cancer and cachexia.
