James Hay (19 December 1856 - 14 April 1927) was a Scottish painter.[1][2]

Life

His father was James Smart Hay (born c.1829 - 1 June 1887), a die and stamp cutler from Morningside, Edinburgh.[3][4]

His mother was Mary Smith (born c. 1829) from Edinburgh. James Smart Hay and Mary married on 1 July 1855 in Edinburgh. This was Mary's second marriage.

James Hay was born on 19 December 1856 in Queen St, Edinburgh.[5][6]

He was a Drawing Master at the Church of Scotland training college.[15]

Death

He died on 14 April 1927 at 57 Merchiston Crescent, Morningside, Edinburgh.[16] The value of his estate was given as £2490, 13 shillings and 10 pence.[17]
