Arthur Harris (21 April 1871 - 4 February 1922) was a Scottish painter.[1][2]
Life
[edit]His father was Arthur Baird Harris (27 October 1832 - 12 July 1907), an auctioneer and appraiser, from Newport in Forgan, Fife.[3]
His mother was Jeannie Baker Tress (born c. 1842) from Edinburgh. Arthur and Jeannie married in 1869 in Perth.
Arthur Harris was born on 21 April 1871 in Dundee.[4]
He married Kate McKay Cumming (18 April 1871 - 1955) from Kinross, on 29 March 1895 in Perth. She remarried on 12 May 1905 in Edinburgh. The new marriage certificate stated widow but in fact she had sought and obtained a divorce from Arthur Harris at the Court of Session in Edinburgh in 1900. She claimed that Arthur Harris was frequently drunken and abusive to her. They had a child in the marriage; Kate McKay Cumming claimed that since their split Harris had shown no interest in their child and Harris was ordered to pay 10 shillings per week in alimony.[5]
