William Dennistoun (3 March 1839 - 24 October 1884) was a Scottish painter. He was the first President of the Glasgow Art Club.[1]
Life
[edit]His father was Ebenezer Dennistoun, (1798 - 1863), a wright and wood merchant. He died of pulmonary tuberculosis.[2]
His mother was Elizabeth Burns, born 1811, she was also to die of pulmonary tuberculosis.[3] Ebenezer and Elizabeth married in 1834. Elizabeth was Ebenezer's second wife, after the death of his first wife Jean McNicol, who died after the birth of her daughter. The daughter died soon after.
William Dennistoun was born on 3 March 1839 in Glasgow.
