John Curdie (24 October 1821 - 26 February 1896) was a Scottish painter.[1]
Life
[edit]His father was George Curdie (1793 - 23 October 1886), a carter from Kilmarnock.
His mother was Margaret Lymburn, the surname sometimes recorded as Lymburner. George and Margaret married on 26 January 1821 in Kilmarnock.
John Curdie was born 24 October 1821 in Kilmarnock, Ayrshire.[2][3][4]
He married Janet Mair (born c. 1828), known as Jessie, from Cumnock. John and Jessie married on 11 April 1851 in Kilmarnock, Ayrshire.
Art
[edit]He was the first president of Kilmarnock Art Club, established 1889.
Death
[edit]John Curdie died on 26 February 1896 at his home on 8 Bentinck Street in Kilmarnock.[6]
