Henry William Jennings Brown (7 May 1860 - 4 January 1887) was a Scottish painter.[1]
Life
[edit]His father was the artist William Beattie Brown (9 November 1831 - 31 March 1909) from Haddington, East Lothian.
His mother was Esther Love Doig (1839 - 1904) from Perth. They married on 23 December 1858 in Edinburgh.
Henry William Jennings Brown was their first child, born on 7 May 1860 in Edinburgh.
He married Alice Maude M. Baker (c. 1861 - 1937) from India, in 1880 in Lewes, Sussex.
They had 2 sons Henry Lardner Jennings Brown and Laurence Randolph Jennings Brown.
Art
[edit]He ran an Art School in Eastbourne.[2]
Death
[edit]He died on 4 January 1887 in Stockbridge, Edinburgh, at the residence of his father at 15 St. Bernard's Crescent.[3]
The death certificate states that he suffered from phthisis for a year. Phthisis is an old name for tuberculosis.
