George Telfer Bear (30 October 1874 - 29 June 1973) was a Scottish painter.[1]
Life
[edit]His father was Ebenezer Bear (25 January 1851 - 28 April 1913) from Greenock, a hatter and hosier.
His mother was Jeanne Telfer (6 May 1854 - 9 May 1935) from Rosshall in Renfrewshire. Ebenezer and Jeanne married on 4 February 1874 in Greenock.
George Telfer Bear was born on 30 October 1874 in Greenock.
He married Sarah McQuarrie (26 December 1871 - 18 November 1956) on 19 July 1906 in Parkleven, Kilmacolm. They had 3 children.
After Sarah died, George remarried Magdalene Stewart Millar (1877 - 1963) in 1957 .
Art
[edit]He studied art at the Glasgow School of Art.
Death
[edit]He died at a hospital in Helensburgh on Friday 29 June 1973. The cremation took place at Cardross Crematorium.[2]
