Robert Walker Kilgour (24 July 1815 - 2 August 1893) was a Scottish painter.[1]
Life
[edit]His father was James Kilgour (born 1 June 1782) from Kinghorn in Fife. He was an Assistant Keeper Of The Register Of Deeds at Register House in Edinburgh.
His mother was Beatrix Walker (10 April 1791 - 31 May 1834) from Athelstaneford in East Lothian. James and Beatrix married on 5 June 1811 in Edinburgh.
Robert Walker Kilgour was born on 24 July 1815 in Edinburgh. He was baptised two days later.[2]
After Beatrix died his father James married again. His second marriage on 25 May 1837 was to Jane McKenzie (c. 1796 - 30 September 1868). Sometime after James died, Jane also died - at the Royal Bank in Irvine.[3]

At the 1881 census he was a lodger at Station Road in Dollar.[7]

[edit]In 1856 he place this advert in the Edinburgh News and Literary Chronicle of Saturday 05 January 1856:[8]
FOR ONE POUND AND UPWARDS. Mr. R. W. KILGOUR. ARTIST, 46 Nicolson ST, guarantees a CORRECT LIKENESS in Oil Colours, for One Pound and upwards. An inspection of specimens requested at 46 Nicolson Street.
Death
[edit]He died on 2 August 1893 at his home in Dollar.
