James Elliot Shearer (22 September 1857 - 7 January 1940) was a Scottish painter.[1][2]

His father was Robert Stewart Shearer (born c. 1828), a bookseller and stationer from Logie, Stirlingshire.
His mother was Maria Louisa Elliot (born 13 January 1821) from Sheffield, England. Robert and Maria married on 27 September 1853 in Stirling.
James Elliot Shearer was born in Stirling on 22 September 1857.[7]
