Gertrude Sanders (6 February 1859 - 16 January 1923) was a Scottish painter.[1][2]

Her father was James Sanders (9 November 1823 - 1871) from Edinburgh. He became a professor of English Literature at the University of Calcutta (now Kolkata) in India. He died at sea was buried in Gibraltar.

Her mother was Jessie Emma Harriet Jones (14 August 1824 - 14 May 1905) from Kanpur, India. James and Jessie married on 18 October 1854 in Kolkata.

Gertrude Emma Sanders was born in Kolkata on 6 February 1859. She was baptised on there on 3 May 1859.

She was brought up in Edinburgh.

She died on 16 January 1923 in Edinburgh. She is buried in Dean cemetery.[8] The value of her estate was given as £1802 and 4 pence.[9]
