James Rowat (31 July 1849 - 23 December 1924) was a Scottish painter.[1][2]

His father was Alexander Rowat (10 August 1815 - 16 December 1904), a wire worker from Twechar near Kilsyth.[8]

His mother was Elizabeth Wilson (c. 1809 - 21 October 1892) from Glasgow. Alexander and Elizabeth married on 15 December 1835 in Glasgow.[9]

James Rowat was born in Glasgow on 31 July 1849.[10][11]

Death

He died at his home in Primrose Bank, Uddingston on 23 December 1924. The executor of his will was his housekeeper Elizabeth Crichton. The value of his estate was given as £7211, 11 shillings and 5 pence.[12]
