Robert Henry Alison Ross (11 September 1872 - 8 March 1944) was a Scottish painter.[1][2]
Life
[edit]His father was John Barclay Ross (born 1829), a publisher from Tain in Easter Ross.
His mother was Mary Alison (1 June 1834 - 24 February 1924) from Dundee. John and Mary married in Stirling on 30 December 1858.
Robert Henry Alison Ross was born on 11 September 1872 at 1 Melville Terrace in Edinburgh.[3][4]
He had a partner Flora Jeanie Gray (28 January 1891 - 1948) from Glenboig in Renfrewshire. They never married and the relationship ended.
They had a son Archibald McInnes Hood Gray (1 March 1909 - 17 July 1962). Archie was given up for adoption. Flora later married, first Adam Melville Hanning and then Edward Gladstone Fuller.

[edit]He died on 8 March 1944 in Edinburgh. His usual address was then 4 Belford Road, Edinburgh.[5] He was cremated on 13 March 1944.
