Colin Macnaughton (23 June 1903 - 4 August 1936) was a Scottish painter and art teacher. He died drowning while trying to save other swimmers in trouble.[1][2]
Life
[edit]His father was Colin Macnaughton [Snr] (14 September 1838 - 6 December 1924), a minister.[3] He was born at Knocksapplebeg, at Southend in Argyll. He took over the St. Duthus ministry in Tain, Ross-shire in the years 1871 - 1883.[4]
His mother was Mary Robertson (1863 - 1951), daughter of William Robertson of Stornoway and Ms. Lindsay. Colin [Snr] and Mary married on 11 August 1886 at the Waterloo Hotel in Edinburgh.[5]
Colin Macnaughton was born on 23 June 1903 at Tain, Ross-shire.[6]
He had three sisters Ethel, Clare, Blanche and one brother Iain.
In the 1920s the family moved to Edinburgh and stayed at 39 Braid Road.
Art
[edit]He became the Art Master of George Watson's College in Edinburgh.
Death
[edit]He died from drowning when trying to save other swimmers at St. Abbs on 4 August 1936.
