Charles Edward Ritchie (5 February 1866 - 13 June 1948) was a Scottish painter.[1][2]

Life

His father was William Ritchie (c. 1817 - 1909), a distiller from Glasgow.

His mother was Margaret Hamilton (16 April 1826 - 31 August 1900) from Cambusnethan, Lanarkshire. William and Margaret married on 22 November 1859 in Glasgow.

Charles Edward Ritchie was born on 5 February 1866 in Glasgow.[7]

He first went to Aberdeen University before he went to Oxford University at Magdalen College.[8]

He was staying with the artist Thomas Austen Brown in St. Pancreas, London in 1901.[9]

He died at his home in 19 West Park Avenue, St. Helier, Jersey in the Channel Islands on 13 June 1948.[10] He was buried in Mont-a-L'Abbe cemetery in St. Helier.[11]

Works

A contemporary artist Charles Edward Ritchie (5 June 1863 - 18 September 1948) was from Australia, but for a time worked in France and England.[12] His work is usually etching, whereas the Scottish artist painted portraits, figures and landscapes.[13]
