James Riddel (27 March 1857 - 14 March 1928) was a Scottish painter.[1][2]
Life
[edit]His father was John Riddell (born 5 September 1826), a mechanical draughtsman from Aberdeen.
His mother was Mary Turnbull (27 October 1828 - 4 September 1918) from Glasgow. John and Mary married on 15 June 1854 in Glasgow.
James Alick Riddel was born on 27 March 1857 in Tradeston, Glasgow.[3]
He married Margaret Grace Shepherd (3 November 1853 - 12 April 1926) from Tibbermore in Perthshire. They married on 12 October 1882 in Perth.

[edit]He died on 14 March 1928 at his home Balvonie in Balerno, near Currie outside Edinburgh. He had a bout of pneumonia and never recovered.[5] The funeral took place at Balerno on 17 March 1928 where he was cremated, his ashes were then taken to Glasgow.[6] The value of his estate was given as £5590, 5 shillings and 11 pence.[7]
