Lizzie Reid (30 May 1854 - 21 January 1932) was a Scottish artist.[1]

Life

Her father was Edmund Reid, an agent staying at 27 Broughton Street, Edinburgh from 1851, staying at 5 Deanhaugh Street, Edinburgh before that.

Her mother was Elizabeth Gray. Edmund and Elizabeth married on 3 April 1844 in Edinburgh.

Lizzie Reid was born on 30 May 1854 in Edinburgh.

The children proved an artistic family. Her elder brother John Robertson Reid (6 August 1851 – 10 February 1926), born in Edinburgh,[4] became an artist. Their parents briefly moved down to England for work. Her younger sister Flora MacDonald Reid (25 July 1860 - ), born in Islington, London, also became an artist.[5]

Lizzie married Thomas Grainger (born c. 1852), a stone cutter from Edinburgh. They married in Edinburgh on 27 November 1874.

Their daughter Helen Grainger was born on 8 December 1874 in Edinburgh.

Art

She studied art at the Trustees' Academy in Edinburgh.

Death

She died on 21 January 1932 in Edinburgh. Her usual address was then 6 Millar Place, Peebles. The value of her estate was given as £154, 17 shillings and 11 pence.[6]
