John Thomas Reid (15 June 1844 - 6 May 1917) was a Scottish painter.[1][2] He later became a missionary.[3]

Life

His father was John Reid (c. 1797 - 22 December 1886) from Edinburgh.[6]

His mother was Catherine Paton (23 February 1821 - 31 August 1898) from Edinburgh. John and Catherine married on 28 December 1841 in Dysart, Fife.[7]

John Thomas Reid was born on 15 June 1844 in south Leith, Edinburgh.[8][9]

He married Isabella Cameron (born c. 1849) from Stenscholl in Staffin on the Isle of Skye. They married in Little Dunkeld, Perthshire in 1879.

He died in Yiyang County, Jiangxi, China on 6 May 1917. The value of his estate was given as £377, 17 shillings and 11 pence.[10]
