William McWhannel Petrie (31 May 1869 - 10 January 1937) was a Scottish painter and sculptor.[1][2]

Life

His father was William McWhannel (1835 - 16 June 1870), a silk dyer.

His mother was Janet Heriot Michie (1844 - 11 November 1909) from Aberdeen. William [Snr] and Janet married on 7 February 1868 at 21 Shiprow, Aberdeen.

William McWhannel Petrie was born on 31 May 1869 in Aberdeen.[3]

After his father died when William was barely one year old, Janet remarried. She remarried Alexander Petrie (1845 - 12 March 1913) from Aberdeen. They married on 26 February 1874 in Aberdeen. William took his stepfather's name.

He married Elizabeth Constance McRoberts (born c. 1882) from Glasgow. They married on 28 December 1904 at 40 Princes Street, Tradeston, Glasgow.

He died on 10 January 1937 at Victoria Infirmary, Glasgow. He died of bronchopneumonia.
