John Oliphant (7 June 1813 - ) was a Scottish painter.[1][2]
Life
[edit]His father was Thomas Oliphant (16 December 1786 - c. 1856), a glasscutter from Pittenweem, Fife.
His mother was Marjorie McQueen (born c. 1788) from Bothkennar in Stirlingshire. They married on 8 February 1810 in Edinburgh.
John Oliphant was born on 7 June 1813 in Edinburgh.[3][4]
He married Mary Smith (8 June 1818 - 28 May 1881) from Edinburgh. She was the daughter of James Smith, a cut glass manufacturer. They married on 18 March 1842 in Edinburgh.[5]
His brother was Francis Wilson Oliphant (1818 - 1859), a painter and stained glass designer. Francis's wife was the novelist Margaret Oliphant.
He had a son on 4 January 1880 at 4 Pine Street, Glasgow.[6]
