His father was William Falconer Ogilvie (4 December 1822 - 12 October 1905) from Ancrum in Roxburghshire. He was a Captain in the Bengal army and then retired living on private means.
His mother was Sabina Jessie Macpherson (1851 - 11 December 1925) from London, England. William and Sabina married on 28 January 1881 in Edinburgh.[5]
