George William Novice (9 December 1805 - 2 February 1873) was a Scottish painter and poet.[1][2]

His father was the artist William Novice (born 1783) from Bermondsey, England.

His mother was Ann Harriet Twelves. They married in 1805.

George William Novice was born on 9 December 1805 in Southwark, Surrey, England. He was baptised on 12 January 1806 there.

He married Isabella Pate (29 August 1821 - 8 October 1893) from Westminster, London, England, the daughter of Michael Pate and Jessie Brown. They married on 1 January 1847 in Edinburgh after the banns were issued on 22 December 1846 in Edinburgh. She was buried in Warriston cemetery.[7]

He died at his home in 2 Malta Green Place in Edinburgh on 2 February 1873 at 12pm. The death certificate states he died of hemiplegia of the right side and a severe burn of the face and neck.
