Erskine Edward Nicol (12 May 1868 - 13 May 1926) was a Scottish painter.[1][2]

Life

His father was the artist Erskine Nicol (3 July 1825 - 8 March 1904) from Leith in Midlothian.

His mother was Margaret Mary Wood (c. 1832 - 31 January 1919) from Aston in Berkshire, England. She was Erskine's second wife. Erskine and Margaret married on 20 April 1865 in Chelsea, London.

Erskine Edward Nicol was born on 12 May 1868 in Kensington, London.

He was brought up in Scotland at his Aunt Helen Watson's home in Edinburgh at 1 Scotland Street.[3]

Later his father moved back to Edinburgh, staying at Torduff House in Colinton, and Erskine [Jnr] stayed there while studying art.[4]

He married Cecilia Marion Frere (4 May 1879 - 29 April 1946) from Hendon in Middlesex, London. They married on 11 September 1911 in Kensington, London.

He died on 13 May 1926 in Cabrerets, France.[5]
