George Smith Nichol (14 April 1846 - 20 October 1882) was a Scottish painter.[1][2]
Life

1881 census - 5 East London Street, St. Andrews[5]
His father was Francis Hay Nichol (born c. 1814) from the West Indies, a member of the College of Surgeons in London. In the 1851 census, it was noted that he was non-practising.
His mother was Catherine Matthew (born c. 1819) from Aberdeen, daughter of Alexander Matthew. Francis and Catherine married on 25 June 1839 in Aberdeen.
George Smith Nichol was born on 14 April 1846 in Aberdeen.[6]

[edit]He drowned on 19 October 1882.[7] His body was found on a beach in Musselburgh on 20 October 1882. His usual address was then 2 Barony Place, Edinburgh.[8]
