Agnes Violet Neish (née Anderson; 21 January 1912 - 24 July 2008) was a Scottish painter.[1] She is one of the McGlashan-Anderson artistic dynasty of the Glasgow School of Art.[2]
Life
[edit]Agnes Violet Anderson was born in Hexham on 21 January 1912.[1]
Her father was William Smith Anderson (21 November 1878 - 22 August 1929); her mother was Daisy Agnes McGlashan (5 June 1879 - 17 August 1968). They had married on 28 September 1909 in Glasgow.
She had a sister Daisy McGlashan Anderson. Both her parents and elder sister were artists, as was her aunt Violet Meikle McGlashan(3 December 1872 - 18 December 1905); they all went to the Glasgow School of Art. Agnes Violet continued in that tradition.
She married John McMath Neish (1910 - 1997) in 1938, in Blythswood, Glasgow.
Art
[edit]Anderson attended the Glasgow School of Art from 1929 to 1935. She took drawing and painting; and was in the Drama society and the Kinecraft society.[1]
Her sketch, signed before she married as Agnes Violet Anderson, of The Hay Shed has been in auction.[3]
Death
[edit]She died in an Erskine home in Scotland on 24 July 2008.[4]
