George Herbert Curteis (Canterbury, 3 April 1824 - Lichfield, 9 October 1894) was the first principal of Lichfield Theological College,[1] fellow and sub-rector of Exeter College, professor of New Testament Exegesis at King's College London and rector of a school in Turweston. He was also a canon of Lichfield Cathedral and examining chaplain to the Bishop of Lichfield.
In 1871, he preached at the Bampton Lectures, the text of which can be found in his work Dissent, in its relation to the church of England: eight lectures, preached before the University of Oxford, in the year 1871.
In 1884, he preached at the Boyle Lectures, the text of which can be found in his work The scientific obstacles to Christian belief.
Other works he wrote include Bishop Selwyn of New Zealand, and of Lichfield: a sketch of his life and work, with some further gleanings from his letters, sermons, and speeches, Spiritual progress, 4 sermons—a transcript of four sermons preached in the Chapel of Exeter College—and the articles Atheism and the Church and Christian Agnosticism in Popular Science Monthly, respectively in the 14th volume (March 1879) and the 25th volume (May 1884).

Primary; non-independent (books and articles published or edited by Curteis):

Other works by Curteis, still need to look for online versions, as well as more information on them:

  • Spiritual Progress, 4 Sermons
  • Possibly more?

Fairly frequent. Will compose a list here if necessary.

Wikilinking matters:

Places an article about George Herbert Curteis can be linked from:

  • Lichfield Theological College (which would have to be created first, though. Certainly notable enough even without the special consensus on schools. Already has several existing redlinks in place, too.)
  • Possibly George Selwyn
  • Need to figure out more places. Oh well, article'll have to be written first anyway.

Existing redlinks: Boyle Lectures; Bampton Lectures

Redirects that should be made:

  • G. H. Curteis
  • George Curteis
  • George H. Curteis

Pages that the article probably should link to:

  • Lichfield, Lichfield Cathedral and Lichfield Theological College (the latter as a redlink)
  • Canterbury
  • King's College London
  • Exeter College
  • Bampton Lectures
  • Boyle Lectures
  • George Selwyn (bishop of Lichfield)

Probably more, but would need to write the actual article first to make certain.

Categories it should be tagged with:

  • 1824 births
  • 1894 deaths
Let's figure out the rest later.
