GENEALOGY OF THE CATHOLIC STUARTS
This table shows the descent of three branches of Royal Stuarts, Kings of Scotland and (from 1603) England. At the left is the descent from Elizabeth, daughter of King James I of England (James VI of Scotland), which leads to the House of Hanover (Windsor from 1914) and thus to Queen Elizabeth II. These may be called the Protestant Stuarts. In the centre is the descent from King James II, last Catholic King of England and Scotland, who was deposed in 1688. This line became extinct in 1807 with the death of Henry, Cardinal Stuart, who styled himself King Henry IX. This is the line of the Jacobite Stuarts. At the right is the descent of Henriette-Anne, daughter of King Charles I, who married Philippe, Duke of Orleans. This descent runs through the Orleans, Savoy and Wittelsbach families to Franz von Wittelsbach, Duke of Bavaria, whom fanatical Jacobites style as King Francis of England and Scotland. As the table shows, the Jacobite title will eventually pass to the reigning house of Liechtenstein.
