Established in 2008, the club plays in the Teesside League Division Two having been admitted to membership on 11th June 2008. Scarborough Town F.C. is a member of the North Riding County Football Association.
History
[edit]When Scarborough Football Club went out of existence in June 2007, steps were taken to preserve the excellent work of the club's Centre of Excellence and Football in the Community sections. They were taken under the wing of the nearby George Pindar Community Sports College in Eastfield, Scarborough.
The Under-19 team also moved to this new base and continued its membership of the Northern Under-19 Alliance, albeit under a new name of Scarborough Academy and playing its home games from Pickering Town F.C.
It had been a long-term aim of Scarborough F.C. to extend its youth system "upwards" by forming a team of Under-21 players, thus providing a link between the youth team and the club's first team.
Scarborough F.C. had a good reputation for discovering and developing new talent, with many players progressing to successful Football League careers. In the last few years, players moving on from the Scarborough F.C. Under-19 team included Jimmy Beadle (York City), Ged Dalton (Carlisle United) and Michael Coulson (Barnsley).
Following a number of meetings of interested parties, a committee was formed which decided to found Scarborough Town F.C. An application was made to play in the Teesside League, and this was accepted on 11th June 2008. (1)http://www.scarborougheveningnews.co.uk/sport/New-boys-Town-voted-into.4177642.jp
Stadium
[edit]Following the liquidation of Scarborough F.C. the town's former football ground The McCain Stadium has stood unused and deteriorating. There has been much discussion between Scarborough Borough Council and the company which now owns the stadium site, but progress has been slow.
Scarborough Town F.C. commence their existence by playing home games at the McCain Sports Ground, in Cayton, Scarborough. The club hopes to move to new facilities when they become available.
Nickname
[edit]The club originally hoped to include the word "Academy" in their title, to link with the Scarborough Academy Under-19 side. However this is not allowed by F.A. rules, therefore the club adopted the name Scarborough Town F.C. Its nickname is The Academicals, but many supporters still use the generic name "Boro" as used by most sports clubs from Scarborough.
Management
