Family background

Hakeem Abdul Wahab Ansari alias Hakeem Nabina Ansari was born in 1868 in the town of Yusufpur in the Ghazipur district of eastern Uttar Pradesh in India. His lineage is similar to that of the Companion of the Holy Prophet PBUH Abu Ayub Ansari. His father Hakeem Abdul Rehman Ansari was also a very famous Alam.

Reason for naming

Being a descendant of Sahabi Rasool Abu Ayub Ansari, his family name was Ansari. He had lost his sight due to smallpox in his childhood, so in his time he was known as Hakeem Nabina Ansari. Nabina means blind.

Education

He memorized the Holy Quran at the age of ten. He received his basic Islamic education in his homeland. In 1882 he graduated from Darul Uloom Deoband. He obtained Arabic literature from Maulana Faizul Hassan Saharanpuri and Maulana Zulfiqar Ali Deobandi. He studied medicine from Hakeem Abdul Majeed Khan Dehlavi.

Spiritual Discipleship

Hakeem Nabina Ansari had pledged allegiance to the famous religious scholar of Darul Uloom Deoband, Maulana Rasheed Ahmad Gangohi.

Medical Services

He was also the former Special Physician of Nizam Hyderabad for some time. Khwaja Hasan Nizami addressed him as Luqman-ul-Mulk. He was the special physician of the princes and rulers of Hyderabad and Delhi.

Relationship with Allama Iqbal

Allama Muhammad Iqbal was a firm believer in his therapeutic understanding. He had his kidney stones treated by him.[1]

Books

Most of the works written by Hakeem Nabina Ansari on the science of medicine have fallen into disrepair. One of his books "Mystery Archeology with Experiences of Ansariya" is available in Rekhta's online library.[2]

Death

He died in Rabi' al-Thani 1360 AH (1941) in Delhi. According to the will, he was buried near the mausoleum of Maulana Rasheed Ahmed Gangohi in Gangoh, India.
