Under the auspices of Dr. Muhammad Tahir-ul-Qadri, a welfare institution for the care and education of orphans and helpless children was established in Lahore under the Minhaj Welfare Foundation. It was developed for the orphanage affected by the earthquake in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Azad Kashmir on [8 October]] 2005. Later, children from other areas also started entering it. [1]
Aims and intentions
[edit]The purpose of Aghosh is to provide a safe haven to orphans and disadvantaged children of the society, to secure their future through higher education and to make them useful and proud members of the society.
Location
[edit]The Agoosh Complex building is located on the side of Shah Jilani Road in the Township, Lahore city of Pakistan, along with Jamia Al Minhaj.
The Building
[edit]Initially, Aghosh was housed in a pre-constructed building. Later a new building was constructed according to international standards keeping in view the housing and educational needs of 500 children. Construction of the Agoosh Complex began on December 18, 2008, and the 125,000-square-foot building was completed in a period of two and a half years, on June 4, 2011. It was completed at a cost of Rs. 34 crore. The orphanage housing and the school building is a great masterpiece of modern architectural style, which was completed by Messrs. Khalil Construction Company. In addition to school, the building has space for Aghosh students in their furnished living rooms, mess hall, library, activity halls, and indoor sports facilities. The five-story building also has two elevators for children. Owners assisting in the construction work are hanging on the sponsored blocks in the name of wealth.
The Environment
[edit]Unlike traditional orphanages, Aghosh's interior is pleasant, organized, and homely. Children live here like a family under the care of their loving teachers, who do not allow their children to feel the lack of parents due to their good manners. That is why children feel free to discuss all their issues with the administration and seek appropriate guidance from them. It is this uniqueness and good management of Aghosh's environment that sets it apart from all other such institutions. Here all kinds of physical, educational, training, psychological, and spiritual needs of children are taken care of. The mission of this organization is to make children useful and honorable citizens, therefore special attention is paid to the character-building of children. A special strategy has been formulated to inculcate in the children high character traits such as honesty, selflessness, brotherhood, compassion, honesty, and piety. [2]
Facilities
[edit]Children living in the Aghosh complex are provided with all the basic necessities of life:
- Education
- Food
- Clothing
- Accommodation
- Treatment
Aghosh Grammar School
[edit]There is an English medium school called Agoosh Grammar School in the Aghosh Complex for the education of children, where the children are educated under the supervision of expert teachers. In addition to the children's library, the school has separate computer labs, physics labs, and chemistry labs. Ordinary children of the area are also educated in this school. In this way, the orphans get the opportunity to study together with the ordinary children of the society and also get the opportunity for extra-curricular and recreational activities, which helps them to get out of the feeling of inferiority. In addition, the income of ordinary children's fees helps in the maintenance expenses of orphans, which is not used in any other way. [3]
Tehfiz-ul-Quran Institute
[edit]In addition to schooling, children who are also interested in memorizing the Holy Quran, considering their abilities and physical inclinations, should be taught Quran in the Tahfeez-ul-Quran Institute. The children here are usually enrolled in the sixth grade after primary education. In this institute also they get the opportunity to study with the ordinary children of the society. [4]
Extra Coaching
[edit]Orphans and vulnerable children need more individual attention than normal children to improve their personality and solve their educational and psychological problems. To meet this natural need of children, qualified tutors have been provided, who at different times solve the educational and psychological problems of children on an individual level.
Extracurricular & Recreational Activities
[edit]For the mental and spiritual development of children along with education and training, we have made regular activities a regular part of the schedule:
- Children are taken to or from Skyland, Joyland, and other gardens and recreational areas on a monthly basis.
- Informative and historical places like Museum, Wagah Border, and Planetarium are visited by children for educational entertainment.
- In order to keep the children healthy as well as entertaining, their participation in various sports is ensured every afternoon and evening, while weekly sports programs are also helpful in achieving this goal.
- Keeping in view the spiritual needs of the children, they are especially involved in various religious and spiritual ceremonies so that they can become good Muslims by getting acquainted with the true spirit of Islam.
Food
[edit]A balanced diet for children is one of the main priorities. The three-course meal menu is designed in such a way that the child can get the nutrients according to his physical needs throughout the day. In addition to food, fruits, milk, and other items such as ice cream, biscuits and juices are also an integral part of children's diet.
Clothing
[edit]Children's clothing and food are the sole responsibility of the embrace. New clothes are made for children according to seasonal needs and also for different religious and national festivals.
Accomodaton
[edit]There are advanced accommodation facilities for children. Each child's use includes an individual bed, study table, study chair and wardrobe. Computers are available for modern education and entertainment. There is a well-furnished dining room for dining, with a freezer, television and other amenities. There is also a well-equipped library for children to indulge in all-round reading.
Health
[edit]In the event of a health problem, first aid is still available, but treatment is provided under the supervision of qualified and qualified doctors. Special care is given to children in case of illness.
Sponsorship System
[edit]A system has been devised for the permanent sustenance of orphans and helpless children. The philanthropists affiliated with Minhaj-ul-Quran International remit the children's education and sponsorship expenses on an annual basis, with the help of which their basic needs are met. At present, all the children under the care of Aghosh are enjoying the same facilities as the children of a middle class family, while efforts are being made to improve their lifestyle. Arrangements will also be made for the higher education and marriage of the dependent children.
Agoosh Orphan Care Home had 230 children at the beginning of 2015, while admissions for more children are ongoing. [5]
