Brazil
[edit]In 2014, the FIFA World Cup was hosted in Brazil. This decision was based off location and close evaluation through various economical models. After years of unnecessary construction, imminent domain and countless protests, Brazil was found to be in a worse state than before. Unfortunately, this sporting event caused damage to their environment, society and did not produce not nearly the profit that was initially projected. The total cost was estimated to around $15 Billion according to Wade, "FIFA President Sepp Blatter pledged two years ago to give back some of the 2014 World Cup income to grassroots programs in the South American country, which spent about $15 billion organizing last year's World Cup."[1]. That money could have been allocated to other departments of the inner communities of this country including health care and education to name a few.
