User:A Friendly Spinozist
Hello, I am James. I am a junior at the University of Pittsburgh studying philosophy, history, and history and philosophy of science. Feel free to write me just about anything on my talk page especially if you are interested in anything that I like to think about. My teenage Wikipedia editing alter ego can be found here. I mostly edit articles on philosophy (as that is the area I feel most qualified in), but I have wide ranging interests and will make other minor contributions here and there.
About Me
[edit]I like long conversations deep into the night. I like to partake in various kinds of hedonism despite the clear conflict with my Spinozism. I do not like small talk, but I have been called a flirt (I deny this allegation). At one point or another, I have been addicted to Battlestar Galactica, Dexter, Mad Men, and The West Wing. I like to listen to electronic music, particularly Crystal Castles. When I know that I am going to do something, which I also know it is a bad idea, I often say, "Well, it's just God being God..." in reference to Spinoza's pantheism. I am aware that Spinoza would not approve of this application of his philosophy.
Philosophy
[edit]I have completed graduate coursework in logic, philosophy of quantum mechanics, epistemology of perception, and Kant. I have done research projects on Spinoza's epistemology, the Tractatus Theologico-Politicus, and Kant's Second Antinomy. My other philosophical interests include de Broglie-Bohm theory, monism, and the history of early modern philosophy.
Current Projects
[edit]I am hoping to substantially improve wikipedia's coverage of Spinoza. I am going to start reworking all the articles beginning with Tractatus Theologico-Politicus, Ethics, Philosophy of Spinoza, Spinoza, and Spinozism (in that order). Eventually, I hope to bring all of the articles up to some reasonable standard of correctness and comprehensiveness. Below is a list of my progress so far:
Articles that, to my best knowledge, say nothing incorrect or misleading, but are still not comprehensive.
Articles that fit the criteria above and are reasonably comprehensive, but could be more insightful and thorough.
Articles with which I am almost entirely satisfied.
