The organochloride PCP (pentachlorophenol, C6Cl5OH is a wood preservative biocide.

Structure

PCP is a polychlorinated aromatic:

aromatic ring, five chlorine atoms, one hydroxyl group

Degradation

PCP is degraded by some bacteria, including Sphingobacterium chlorophenolicum [1]

PCP→TCHQ→TriCHQ→DCHQ→2,4-dichloro-3-hydroxy-cis,cis-muconic semialdehyde
