Alan Rosevear is a research chemist by profession and a local historian by inclination. As the former he worked for many years on waste degradation, as the latter he has researched the history of turnpike roads in England. He has more peer reviewed papers in his professional role but has published several booklets on turnpike roads in the Thames Valley, England. He manages the UK national database on Milestones and Tollhouses for the Milestone Society.
