Steven Blake Crowder (born July 7, 1987) is an actor, comedian and contributor for the Fox News Channel.
Early Life and Career
[edit]He was born in Detroit, Michigan, and raised in Greenfield Park, Quebec, Canada, a suburb of Montreal.[citation needed] At age 12, Crowder began working as a voice actor for the character Alan "The Brain" Powers on the children's television series Arthur. He began performing stand-up comedy at age 18, and was noticed by talent scouts resulting in him becoming the youngest comedian ever to perform at the renowned “Just For Laughs” comedy festival in Montreal. Later he won Myspace’s “So You Think You’re Funny” competition and became a frequent guest as an opinion panelist on television news programs.[citation needed]
Political Activity
[edit]By 2009, he achieved exposure for his political punditry in satirical videos posted at Pajamas Media,[1], and later at Andrew Breitbart's Big Hollywood.
Crowder has appeared at many political events, including serving as the master of ceremonies at the Conservative Political Action Conference in 2010 and 2011[2][3][4] and generated some minor controversy with a rap video he premiered at CPAC 2012[5]. Crowder also posts comedy, commentary and news videos to his YouTube channel[6], which regularly get press coverage, such as an October 2012 parody of Lena Dunham's ad endorsing Barack Obama in which she equated picking a president to picking a boyfriend.[7]
December 2012 union protest
[edit]In December 2012, Crowder and others were involved in an altercation at a demonstration in Michigan concerning a right-to-work law. The incident began with an earlier attempt by union activists to tear down the Americans for Prosperity tent. A fist fight broke out between union members and members of Americans for Prosperity. Eventually, the occupied tent was torn down by union members. When Crowder released a video of the incident, he was accused of "selectively editing" the video, to which he responded in a tweet, "All editing is selective by definition."[8] He later released an unedited copy of the video[9] and offered those who attacked him a choice to either be charged with assault to the fullest extent of the law or to a fair and sanctioned bout in an MMA ring for charity.[10] An AFL-CIO spokesman, Eddie Vale, stated that the organization did not condone the tearing down of Crowder's tent nor the violence against Crowder and his group. [11]
Personal Life
[edit]Steven is a Christian. He was married in August 2012, and wrote about the benefits of remaining abstinent prior to his marriage.[12]
