Rico Tscharntke (* 19. April 1973 in Dresden, GDR) is Light artist, Inventer and cultural activist living in Berlin.
Life
[edit]After completing his apprenticeship as a locksmith and studying communication science, he worked for 10 years as a freelance and employed journalist for television stations in Germany and abroad.
Berlin-Friedrichshain is his home.
In addition to his intensive photographic and documentary work, he founded the artist group Lichtpiraten in Berlin in 2006. The artistic focus of the group is the design of light installations and projections for light festivals, clubs and events. The pirates of light are official ambassadors of the city of Berlin and part of the campaign "be Berlin" and represent them worldwide in a "good light". Today, they are loosely connected with a wide variety of artists and have realized and documented hundreds of video installations in twenty countries on four continents.
In 2008 he founded Biostructure GmbH to co-ordinate and handle the cooperation of over 30 partners worldwide. A milestone of the company was the development of open source software OMNIDOME[1], which is currently used worldwide in projection technology. This offers the possibility to project a video without consumption on a three-dimensional body.[2] The software makes it possible to achieve a result with conventional computer technology, which was previously achieved only with special hardware and profound software knowledge.
Tscharntke is one of the founders of the well known techno club Sisyphos in Berlin.
3D Projection
[edit]His current work focus is the projection on spherical bodies. He was supported by the TU Berlin and the german Federal Ministry of Economic Affairs with an EXIST scholarship. After inventing Glowb a 380° Display in 2018 he found the companies Airglobe UG, followed by Videosphaeren GmbH in 2022, both in berlin.[3] Tscharntke is part of KL productions.[4]
Engagement
[edit]Tscharntke was elected chairholder of the alternative Bergpartei, die Überpartei in February the 21th 2017[5][6] He sees Art as contribution to justice. With light installations he wants create energetic places with unique surcumstances to meet each other.[7][8]
