Tooraj Enayati (تورج عنایتی) (born February 1, 1965) is an Iranian-born Australian, who lives in Melbourne. He is an I.T. professional who graduated from Monash University with a bachelor's degree of Computing in Digital Technology in 1992.
Early life in Iran
[edit]Enayati was born was born in 1965 in Maragheh, Iran to his father, Tarazullah and mother, Farnousheh. When he was two, the family moved to Tabriz, Iran.
He attended the Noor primary school and later on the Mansur High School in Tabriz.
In 1984 at the age of 20, along with his brother and cousin, he escaped to Pakistan as a member of the prosecuted minority believers of the Bahá'í Faith.
In Pakistan he was accepted by United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) as a refugee and lived in Rawalpindi of 15 month.
In April 1986, with the assistance of UNHCR and Australian government, he moved to settle Australia to start his new life.
Life in Australia
[edit]Enayati arrived in Australia with $7 in his pocket, just a change of clothes and unable to speak English. He stayed in the Maribyrnong Migrant Hostel for six months and then moved out to live in South Yarra.
After attending English classes for months, he decided he needs to work while contemplating further education. His first job in Australia was with Fiesta Electrics, on Hawthorn Road, Caulfield, installing car stereos.
By January 1987, he had decided to go back to high school and do year 12 again to become familiar with the Australian education system, improve his English and prepare himself for attending university. He enrolled in year 12 HSE classes for matured aged students at Collingwood TAFE College, while securing a factory hand job at Kraft Foods factory Fishermans Bend.
Studying eight hours on weeknights with very limited command of the English language and working full time from 7 am to 3 pm proved too difficult for Enayati. So he quite night studying and continued to work to save for full time study the following year.
In 1988, Enayati enrolled in to study year 12 full time at Prahran Secondary College. She was able to gradate from high school once again with reasonably good results be accepted into studding Bachelor of Computing (Digital Technology) at Monash University, Caulfield campus.
To earn a living while studying, Enayati had to resort to washing cars at Hertz car rental one summer break and driving taxis on his final year of study.
Enayati graduated with great result in 1991.
His high distinction results secured him a vocational placement opportunity in the summer of 1989-90 with Carlton & United Breweries (C.U.B.). This led his employment at C.U.B. in 1991.
