Zen sicknesses, Japanese zenbyo 禅病, Tibetan loong[1], are ailments that occur among advanced religious devotees, known from a range of religious traditions. Well-known examples include
- The Book of Job[2], with persistent boils all over the body
- Hakuin Zenji's account in his autobiography, Wild Ivy[3], describing an affliction of the lungs
- Rev. Jiyu-Kennett's illness, described in How to Grow a Lotus Blossom[4], in her heart
