User:2022 Mechinagar Municipal election/sandbox
Municipal election for Mechinagar took place on 13 May 2022, with all 77 positions up for election across 15 wards.[1][2] The electorate elected a mayor, a deputy mayor, 15 ward chairs and 60 ward members. An indirect election will also be held to elect five female members and an additional three female members from the Dalit and minority community to the municipal executive.[3][4]

Background
[edit]Mechinagar municipality was created by combining Dhulabari (Nepali: धुलाबारी) and Kakarbhitta Village Development Committee. The municipality has expanded its territory by adding nearby VDCs Bahundangi, Duhagadhi, Jyamirgadhi and Dhaijan in 2073 BS (2017 AD). The population of the expanded city is 111,737 (as of the 2011 census) and its area is 192.52 sq. km. The municipality is the municipality with the highest population in the country.
In the previous election, Bimal Acharya from Nepali Congress was elected mayor.[5]
