Celebrating the 75th anniversary of Victory in the Great Patriotic War - festive and commemorative events timed to coincide with the anniversary of the Victory of the Soviet Union in the Great Patriotic War of 1941-1945.
The Great Patriotic War of 1941-1945 lasted 1418 days and nights[1]. In 2020 it is celebrating the 75th anniversary of the Victory in the Great Patriotic War. In many countries of the world, it was planned to hold large-scale public events in connection with the anniversary.
Due to the COVID-19 coronavirus infection pandemic, significant changes have been made to the celebrations.
Preparation for the celebration
[edit]President of the Russian Federation V.V.Putin by his decree[2] declared 2020 in Russia the Year of Memory and Glory.
On June 13, 2019, the jubilee medal "75 years of Victory in the Great Patriotic War of 1941-1945" was established.
On May 9, 2020, the largest monument in the history of modern Russia was to be unveiled - the Rzhev Memorial to the Soviet Soldier. The 25-meter figure of a warrior is located near the M-9 highway. Due to the spread of COVID-19, the ceremony was postponed to June 30.
The military parade on Red Square
[edit]The military parade on Red Square in 2020 became the central event in the celebration of the 75th anniversary of Victory in the Great Patriotic War. It was held on June 24 - the anniversary of the 1945 Victory Parade. The parade on Victory Day on May 9 had to be abandoned due to quarantine measures.
The parade involved 15 thousand servicemen, 225 units of weapons and military equipment, as well as 150 aircraft. 24 units of the latest models of military equipment were demonstrated. 10 calculations in military uniform of the Great Patriotic War and a mechanized column of the legendary T-34 and SU-100 have passed. The duration of the parade, compared to previous years, has been increased to one and a half hours.
It is very important for Russian people, the current generation, not to forget and pass on to our descendants the entire history of the Great Patriotic War of 1941-1945.
