The Pathani Samanta Planetarium in Bhubaneswar, is the only Planetarium in the state of Odisha, India. Named after famous Odia naked eye astrologer Pathani Samanta, this planetarium is founded with an objective of creating awareness about astronomy, astrophysics and space science among people [1]. Apart from running three to four shows daily in English, Odia and Hindi, the planetarium authority conducts other events like night sky watch programme during astronomical events through telescope for safe viewing, essay, debate and quiz competition among school students and different orientation programmes related to astronomy [2].
The planetarium has gone through a renovation in the year 2012 and fitted with a modern digital planetarium equipment replacing 22 year old obsolete optomechanical equipment. With this renovation drive, apart from creating better viewing experience, the sitting capacity also increased from 140 to 200 for accommodating more audience in a single show [3].
