[edit]

Definition

[edit]

Send some money or goods to help out a banqueting house or family in mourning. As cash has become more common in modern times, it has changed to pay with money. It is divided into two types: congratulatory money for a wedding, a birthday party, a 60th birthday party, and condolence money for a funeral.

back ground

[edit]

Buzo is meant to celebrate or to console. It is also a role to finance a large amount of spending by conducting a family event. the person who pays the buzo expects to pay back same amount of money in his family event. in this part It's a promised exchange.[1]

How to buzo

[edit]

It is customary that the amount should be set to odd numbers. Exactly, it costs 3, 5, 7, 100,000 won. (It then rises to 10 units.) South Korea has also seen considerable progress in inflation, which is preferred because it is convenient to cut into 5 units after the emergence of 50,000 won bills. It is expected that it will gradually be set to 5 units after more time. In the beginning, what originated from Confucian Yin-Yang and the Five Elements theory, changed once again to suit the convenience of the people in modern times, thus becoming an implicit rule. The preference for odd numbers itself has a Confucian source, which is that they should be set to odd numbers with positive energy because even numbers represent negative energy. This is a natural interpretation, considering that the aid was originally from the proposal of the the four ceremonial occasions of coming of age. Of the odd numbers, it was naturally omitted because it was difficult to pay 10,000 won, and 9 was excluded because it was about to reach 10 so it was ominous.

Caution point In Korea.

[edit]

there is a law called Kim Young-ran law to prevent corruption of public officials. So when you do buzo to a government official, you can give a gift of less than 100,000 won or pay less than 50,000 won.[1] and In the event of a congratulatory money, it is not a bad manners to talk about the amount, but in the case of a condolence money, it is better to refrain from asking for the amount it's a bad manners.
