User:Ø11/Grandchildren of Christian IX of Denmark and Louise of Hesse-Kassel
This is a list of the 39 grandchildren of the Danish King Christian IX of Denmark (1818–1906, king from 1863, married 1842) and his wife Louise of Hesse-Kassel (the queen consort, 1817-1898), each of whom was therefore either a sibling or a first cousin to each of the others. It also lists Christian and Louise's children and great-grandchildren, as well as the spouses of those children and grandchildren who married.
Christian, Louise and their children
[edit]Ancestors of Christian and Louise
[edit]Christian and Louise had one pair of great-grandparents in common, Frederick II, Landgrave of Hesse-Kassel, and Princess Mary of Great Britain, who were grandparents both of Christian's mother Princess Louise Caroline of Hesse-Kassel, and of Louise's father Prince William of Hesse-Kassel.
They also have another great-grandparent in common, Frederick V of Denmark, who was grandfather both of Christian's mother Princess Louise Caroline of Hesse-Kassel, and of Louise's mother Princess Charlotte of Denmark.

Princess Thyra
[edit]Princess Thyra of Denmark (1853-1933) married Prince Ernest Augustus, 3rd Duke of Cumberland and Teviotdale (1845-1923) on 22 December 1878 at Christiansborg Palace in Copenhagen. Ernest Augustus was the eldest child and only son of George V of Hanover and his wife, Princess Marie of Saxe-Altenburg.
They had three sons and three daughters, seven grandsons and five granddaughters. Queen Frederica of the Hellenes, as a daughter of Ernest Augustus, Duke of Brunswick, is a granddaughter of Princess Thyra and thus a great-granddaughter of Christian IX of Denmark.
Thanks to her marriage, Thyra became Duchess of Cumberland and Teviotdale and Duchess of Brunswick-Luneburg; although she was styled Crown Princess of Hanover, in pretense she was Queen Consort of Hanover because both her husband and late father-in-law (who died six months before her marriage) never renounced or abdicated his rights over the annexed Kingdom of Hanover.

Prince Valdemar
[edit]Prince Valdemar of Denmark (1858-1939) married Princess Marie of Orléans (1865-1909) on 20 October 1885 in a civil ceremony in the city of Paris in France. They had a religious ceremony on 22 October 1885 at the Château d'Eu in the town of Eu in the Seine-Maritime department in France. Marie was the eldest child of Prince Robert, Duke of Chartres and his wife, Princess Françoise of Orléans.
They had four sons and one daughter, seven grandsons and two granddaughters. The former Queen Anne of Romania, as a daughter of Princess Margaret of Denmark, is a granddaughter of Prince Valdemar and thus a great-granddaughter of Christian IX of Denmark.
Valdemar was offered two European thrones, those of Bulgaria and Norway, but declined them due to international pressures.
