The Vagrants is the first novel by Yiyun Li.[1] It was published in 2009, following her award-winning 2005 short story collection A Thousand Years of Good Prayers.[2]
The novel won Li the 2009 gold medal of California Book Award for fiction.[2]
In his review, in The New York Times, Pico Iyer characterizes her novel as an instance of "American stories that are World stories".[1]
Reception
[edit]The Vagrants was generally well received upon release. Culture Critic assessed critical response as an aggregated score of 76% based on British and American press reviews.[3] In Bookmarks May/June 2009 issue, a magazine that aggregates critic reviews of books, the book received a 
(4.00 out of 5) with the summary stating, "Reviewers were clearly impressed by The Vagrants, especially noteworthy because it is Li’s first novel".[4]
