Thafnine, (born 29 January 2000) commonly known as Thaf or T9, is an English YouTuber, VTuber and Twitch Streamer. Active since 2014, he is known for his long form video essays focusing on horror games and 2010s culture[2]. He has made videos on subjects such as horror centered RPG maker games, the Corpse Party series, and the Five Nights At Freddy's game series.[3]
Career
[edit]Pre-YouTube
[edit]Before Thafnine became a full-time YouTuber, he worked as a graphic designer and freelance artist. He frequently collaborated with several YouTubers and agencies such as English YouTuber and rapper KSI. In 2018 he worked with community-run esports agency Rival Esports to create a graphics package for Psyonix's Rocket League Rival Series.[citation needed] He also designed a fan-made poster for Rocket League that same year.[4] In 2019 he worked with digital artist Cyan Gorilla on KSI and Randolph's debut studio album New Age, contributing to the editing, effects, and graphic design of an alternate cover for the album. [5]Thafnine also designed several YouTube thumbnails for KSI and YouTube group the Sidemen during this time period.
In 2018, Thafnine designed a poster for the Epic Games battle royale game Fortnite. The print was largely inspired by their collaboration with Marvel Studios on May 8 2018 promoting the release of Avengers: Infinity War.[6] Thafnine was not permitted to sell the poster due to the copyrighted material on it, which did not stop other brands from reselling the work; such works have been sold on Redbubble, and other third party companies that have not asked for neither Epic's nor Thafnine's permission.[7]
YouTube
Thafnine started his YouTube career back in April 1, 2016, starting off small with a video named, "YouTube, Fix Your S%&t", that has since been made private. [8]His early videos had a much broader scope, with the main focus on current affairs, culminating in a video documenting the digital marketplace G2A, and the controversies it had garnered in the years prior. After which he began to pivot to a more horror-focused programming, posting videos on various subjects, from criticisms of Netflix anthology program Black Mirror[9], detailing childhood trauma,[10] to in-depth analysis on horror video games.[11]
In 2019, Thafnine start uploading to a second channel, T9, a gaming channel focusing on let's plays of horror games and variety content.[12] That same year he created a new channel, ThafVODS, an archive of content directly uploaded from his Twitch streams.[13] In 2021 Thafnine created ThafClips, a channel focused on posting short-form videos as YouTube Shorts, commonly cross-posted from his TikTok and Instagram.[14]
In 2021 Thafnine released "The Rise and Fall of Corpse Party" a feature-length video essay documenting the history of the Japanese horror franchise Corpse Party. The video was released to acclaim and has garnered over 3.7 million views, becoming his most popular video to date.[15]
Twitch
[edit]Thafnine created his Twitch channel on April 16th 2012, but did not start streaming regularly until February 11th 2019, during which he created his Twitch VOD (Video on Demand) YouTube Channel. His first stream was horror game SCP Containment Breach.[16]
As of 2024, his Twitch channel has over 63K followers with an average viewership of 109 viewers per stream. [17]
Thafnine's streams consist of let's plays of horror games, collaborating with other streamers and reacting to other horror related media.
