[edit]There were a number of links in the "Related items" section with little or no relation to the album at all; I've deleted them. The place for these links are in the relevant main articles, or on the associated dab page, not here, so I've put them there. Swanny18 (talk) 19:43, 19 April 2011 (UTC)
- You are incorrect. Pretty much all of these links have direct relevance to the original album.Hoops gza (talk) 05:35, 20 April 2011 (UTC)
- OK, if its only “practically all” of them that have a connection with the album, perhaps we should start by you removing the ones you think aren’t connected, and we’ll take it from there. As for the rest:-
- Cádiz CF, Villarreal CF, and USS Menhaden (SS-377) have no discernable connection with the album, and there is nothing on the article pages that asserts there is one. They share a name with the song, and in fact there isn’t anything to suggest the song connection is anything other than coincidence.
- The Chief, the Blue Meanies and Jeremy Hoob are all characters in the film; none of them are mentioned on the album, and (again) nothing in the articles about the album.
- And the sculpture was inspired by the film, and the song, not the album.
- All these items are listed on the Yellow Submarine dab page, and there probably should be a link to there ( maybe at the "Related items" heading), but a template shouldn't be an indiscriminate collection of vaguely connected links.
- However, all information on WP is subject to verifiability; so, do you have any sources that explicitly link any of these items to the Yellow Submarine album? If so, then bring them along to the discussion. Swanny18 (talk) 21:36, 2 May 2011 (UTC)
In my opinion this is not an indiscriminate collection of articles, but a collection of articles related to either the Beatles album Yellow Submarine or the eponymous film. And the film would not exist without the album. So they are related to the album. The idea is to show all popular culture related to the original piece of work. I suppose that this is not discernable for Cádiz CF, Villarreal CF, and USS Menhaden (SS-377), so those could be reverted.Hoops gza (talk) 00:20, 3 May 2011 (UTC)
- "the film would not exist without the album": I think you are a bit confused on this point. This album is the soundtrack to the film, which came out the previous year. It is the album which wouldn’t exist without the film, not the other way around. Characters from the film should be mentioned in the film article, not here, as they aren’t on the album at all. As an aside you haven’t listed George Martin, though he composed all the music listed on the B side, which is a much bigger connection. Swanny18 (talk) 20:23, 17 May 2011 (UTC)
Good points all around. I have removed the film characters, added George Martin. However, I believe that the film should still be listed as people looking for related "Yellow Submarine" media will be curious to know if there is a film.Hoops gza (talk) 00:13, 18 May 2011 (UTC)
- Agreed; I have no objection at all to the film being there, as it is a direct link. It was the other stuff I was dubious about. I think that covers it...Swanny18 (talk) 17:46, 19 May 2011 (UTC)
