Categorizing the Talk pages is all that is needed. If I understand the system correctly articles themselves should never be associated with WikiProjects, so perhaps the template should be reverted to the last version? Also see Category:Articles of WikiProject Protected areas for their explanation. --Lethargy 18:28, 18 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]

  • Well, after all my crazy mad editing, I didn't really get anywhere. Especially when I finally realized that I was attempting to do it all wrong anyway. I didn't revert it, but after all my editing it ended up identical to a revert anyway. Anyway, if you notice anything else I broke, feel free to fix it! I'm off to do more of what I know how to do :D Em3rald 18:54, 18 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]

  • I see what you are getting at, I assume you want to make an attempt to be more friendly so as to encourage more input. On the other hand, I like the professional approach. So I attempted a happy medium, and I hope you agree. Let me know what you think of my changes. Em3rald 04:56, 20 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]
    • I pretty much stole the idea from the China project, but it didn't sound perfect to me, so I added it here. The current version looks pretty good, minus an extra dash I'm going to remove ;) --Lethargy 19:42, 20 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Convert banner

{{edit protected}} Added portal link and to-do list for banner, updated t:doc to t:documentation, minor resizing of map. See Template:Lake project/sandbox. Could you add this into the banner? Thanks. --Funandtrvl (talk) 00:01, 2 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you for your suggestion. It's something that could be implemented at some point.
As there is no specific portal for lakes, I wouldn't add a general portal link.
The to-do list needs cleaning up, it hasn't been edited recently. No need to put the current version on every article's talk page. Possibly a general link on the cleanup bot's list would do. -- User:Docu

Needs some tweaking

[edit]

{{edit protected}}

Fixes
  1. Need to add assessment page link
  2. Need to add {{SUBJECTPAGENAME}} in main text, removing {{ARTICLESPACE}}{{PAGENAME}}, which is missing the colon ":" and a space between the words, making the namespace and page name run together, not very grammatically correct!
  3. Add main cat (as shown in /sandbox) and rm include only tags w/main cat inside it.
  4. Remove open "noinclude" tag at very end of template. --Funandtrvl (talk) 20:45, 22 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Proposals
  1. Suggestion to change main text wording to usage appearing in Template:Lake project/sandbox; for an example, the current version and proposed are compared in Template:Lake project/testcases. It would add a few more project links, remove duplicate "WikiProject" words and references that immediately follow each other and clean up grammar.
  2. Suggestion to add in the to-do list - just because it hasn't been updated lately doesn't matter. Most people reading it would have no idea when the list was created, and it might actually inspire someone to do something listed on the "to-do" list. It would also alert readers that wouldn't necessarily arrive at the WP:LAKES page first, exposing it to that many more readers. --Funandtrvl (talk) 20:03, 22 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]
The fixes all look fine to me. As you are also making some nontrivial proposals, I suggest leaving this for a few days in case anyone has any comments. PS, did you know that # can be used to easily make numbered lists? — Martin (MSGJ · talk) 20:54, 22 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Okay, thanks. Yes, I remember that # is a shortcut, just didn't think of it first! :-) --Funandtrvl (talk) 21:12, 22 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]
I have now implemented all your fixes and proposals. Thanks! — Martin (MSGJ · talk) 10:55, 24 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Do you intend to use the todo list? If not, I'd rather not add it. -- User:Docu 15:20, 2 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]
I removed it for now -- User:Docu at 19:33, 5 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]

The Wikipedia:WikiProject Lakes/Articles/with Infobox has been deleted so it should be removed from the template. -- Alan Liefting (talk - contribs) 21:10, 25 April 2012 (UTC)[reply]

adding Redirect Class and SIA class to WP Lakes classes

[edit]

Since Lakes have many name that intersect and {{Lakes index}} is used it makes sense to add the SIA non-standard class as classification so they don't get mixed in with disambig or lists even though often they are confused with these.

Additionally many less notables lakes are combined into other articles, but still should be able to be searched for thus being able to move NA to a redirect class for clearer visibility would be useful in project maintenance. These also would allow comparing if there is a redirect for a name variant like list of lakes of vs list of lakes in.

The redirect class appears on WikiProject Canada and a few other country level projects. Are there any objections to adding these classifications?Wolfgang8741 says: If not you, then who? (talk) 17:35, 26 June 2020 (UTC)[reply]

I've made edits to the sandbox and created testcases for the addition of Redirect and SIA. These can be viewed live or permalinked. There are currently 113 SIA using the Template:Lake_index template.Wolfgang8741 says: If not you, then who? (talk) 22:10, 29 June 2020 (UTC)[reply]
- apply the updates in the the permalinked sandbox versions above which updates - doc to documentation template, and changes the |QUALITY_SCALE specification to inline from extended and specifies extended classes again in |class via the inlineclass parameter and adds the SIA and Redirect class support. Works correctly according to the test cases. Wolfgang8741 says: If not you, then who? (talk) 06:34, 30 June 2020 (UTC)[reply]

That update has duplicate "SIA=" parms in the {{class mask}}, & the error propogates to many pages that use this template: Category:Pages using duplicate arguments in template calls. Davemck (talk) 14:31, 30 June 2020 (UTC)[reply]
To editor Davemck: pulled samples from that category and from Category:SIA-Class Lakes articles and couldn't find any examples of this. Can you show a specific page where the error is manifested? P.I. Ellsworth  ed. put'r there 04:29, 2 July 2020 (UTC)[reply]
All I was trying to do was enable SIA class, redirect class, and the extended classes. This was my first attempt to edit a template. We can drop "|SETINDEX=SIA|SET INDEX ARTICLE=SIA" if they're the cause of any issues. I may have misunderstood the parameters. Wolfgang8741 says: If not you, then who?
