Explanation for 2008-Jan-3 edit

[edit]

Before October 2006 this template said この利用者は上級の日本語が出来ます, which means "this user (handles) Japanese at an advanced level", i.e. pretty much what other level-3 templates say. In October 2006 an anonymous editor (Special:Contributions/219.208.158.2) changed it to この利用者は流暢な日本語を話すことができます, which means "this user speaks Japanese fluently". That's not what level 3 is supposed to mean, and even if it were the change would be inconsistent with other language templates. The same user edited other ja-# templates, but it's scary enough to change one widely-transcluded page; I'm going to see how people react to this before I revert any others. -- BenRG (talk) 20:42, 3 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Oops, I now see that the 流暢 version was the original one, and the anonymous editor was just restoring it. But I still see no way to justify that wording; level 3 isn't supposed to mean fluent (or 流暢). -- BenRG (talk) 21:35, 3 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]
