Template talk:User French
template revision
[edit]Are French those who live in France not necessarily those of French ancestry as this template was originally created for Cajun and New France ancestry alikes. To be added in the French wikipedians category, please use instead the newly created "French" or "Proud French" templates. French ancestry users can use the Acadian or upcoming Cajun templates instead. Thanks! Cliché Online 20:44, 20 August 2006 (UTC)
- I'm an American of French ancestry, not a Francophone, and I don't appreciate what you are doing at all. I believe that you are imposing your narrow-minded worldview upon others without an appropriate dicussion. If you want to be a Proud French, then go right ahead, but leave me with my heritage still intact. Thanks. --Eric R. Meyers (Ermeyers) (talk) 13:24, 24 August 2006 (UTC)

[edit]I'm gonna go ahead and Be Bold. The template says "French ancestry." It says not one word about being able to speak French, so to see that adding the box to my userinfo also added me to category Francophone was a bizarre surprise. I'm not of Cajun or Acadian ancestry at all; my French ancestry was a soldier under Lafayette. I picked this template over the other because I like the Fleur de Lis better than the French flag (it's prettier than three stripes!), that's pretty much it--and I think that's a valid reason to pick it.
I'm changing the template to get rid of the category stuff that isn't about what's in the template: French ancestry. joye (talk) 12:59, 19 April 2009 (UTC)
