Which version of the Islamic calendar?

[edit]

Which version of the Islamic calendar is displayed?

There are several versions of the Islamic calendar which are used around the world: tabular (of which there are several versions), based on the computed visibility of the lunar crescent or otherwise.

Users of this template should be informed of which version is displayed as they may mistakenly believe that it always displays the "correct date". AstroLynx (talk) 13:26, 30 January 2015 (UTC)[reply]

@Vgent: See Islamic calendar for the various interpretations. This template gives the Solar Hijri calendar used in Iran and Afghanistant (SH) and the Hijri year calendar used in most of the rest of Islam (AH). See also template:Today/AD/AH, shown right, which explains that its calculation relies on the tabular method rather than the observation method. --John Maynard Friedman (talk) 00:35, 10 January 2019 (UTC)[reply]
