Purpose of this template
[edit]I am slightly confused as to the purpose of this template. {{Cite book}} seems perfectly adequate for citations of this book. Is there any particular reason why this template was created? AleatoryPonderings (talk) 16:33, 26 September 2020 (UTC)
- @AleatoryPonderings: The purpose is the same as for any template: ease of use and uniformity. This is a very frequently cited work, and very frequently incorrectly cited as well, with volumes, dates, ISBNs, etc mixed all around (because many people use automatic citation generators, which are, frankly, not too good). With the template, if you want to use this source, you don't have to rely on the generators, you don't have to remember the publication data, you don't need to look for somewhere else to copy them from; you just need to put in the publication name and volume number. Also, should the url change at some point (or any change be necessary), this can be done centrally, rather than going through every single article where the work is changed.
